Because the word accident can mean:
“Oops, accidentally dropped a pencil”
to
“Oops, accidentally obliterated a 2 ton hunk of metal while brutally murdering the 5 occupants inside”
I just prefer “collision” or “wreck”

“Car collision” is pretty concise.
A car collides with a car.
“Car crash” could be tons of things involving a car.

I hate it when I accidentally obliterate a 2 ton hunk of metal, brutally murdering the 5 occupants inside.
It’s why my doomsday weapon uses two-step authentication on the firing system.

I use collision in place of accident as well. When people talk about “accidents” they are rarely actually accidental, or the accidentality is not significant.

Unless it was intentional it fits fine.
Hell, Chernobyl was technically a nuclear accident according to IAEA. Comparatively that makes all automobile accidents look like miniscule blips.

If it wasn’t on purpose, it was an accident. The word describes intent, not magnitude.

If it didn’t happen on purpose, it’s an accident. Literal definition of the word. Using the word collision is more of a description of that accident.

I rarely use the term “accident” anymore, only if it is something that could have been avoided. Ran a red light and crashed, not an accident as you were careless/negligent.

There has been uproar about this in the past, it’s silly really.
Car accident fits perfectly. Regardless of how avoidable it was, or how many people got maimed. Unless it was intentional, it’s an accident.
You can try to change the way people talk when they’re
already using the correct word
, but there are bigger grammar battles to fight. Like people who say
shouldn’t of.
